The City of Cape Girardeau hosted a dedication and ribbon cutting event for their new SportsPlex facility on May 6, 2017. This state of the art building has two regulation indoor turf fields, six hard wood basketball courts, meeting rooms and a food court. Planning Design Studio assisted the city with the initial facility feasibility study. The firm’s involvement continued with preparation of the concept and final construction documents for the outdoor plazas and planting areas. The outdoor spaces feature a main entry plaza with decorative concrete, a small plaza with a serpentine seat wall, and an area reserved for an artistic or commemorative sculpture. The planting areas feature native and ornamental shrubs and trees, perennial flowers, pebble mulch and small decorative boulders reclaimed from the excavation of the site.
